A big thank you...

Cara Young Fish for Life Tournament & benefit

28SEP
Fish4Life ck9-26-13
Wanted to say a big thank you again to everyone who donated, participated and prayed for the fourth annual Cara Young Fish for Life benefit. It was an awesome event and being able to present the check for $20,000 to Cook Children’s Hospital was even greater! It’s not easy anytime I go back to Cook Children’s since we spent so much time there over approx. 20 years but it does not take me too long to see the reason why we do this.
I was asked to do a promotional for the hospital about 6 months after Cara passed and I wasn’t sure I was ready for that. I remember walking into the main entry at Cook and thinking, I’m pretty sure I’m NOT ready. About that time as my eyes started to water and the memories began to flood in a little boy being pulled in a wagon and all hooked up to IV’s, etc. looked up at me and did his best to smile and wave. Wow, thank you Lord, that was what I needed, a good dose of the reality of the situation. Cara was now gone but life with all its issues goes forward and the kids and their families are dealing with their illnesses in the NOW. That was the breakthrough that was provided for me, to see the picture in the present. As the Apostle Paul said in Philippians 3:13…this one thing I do, forgetting what lies behind…
Thank you and we look forward to our next annual benefit and tournament and would consider it a privilege and honor for you to be a part of it! I know the kids and families that have to be at Cook Children’s will too!Cook_presentation_9-26-13

What Spirit is the contention coming from?

William Wilberforce is a model for speaking truth in love. He had strong opinions. He was an eloquent debater. But he was also gracious and civil. We need to adopt Wilberforce’s model of civility today, especially since so many in the political arena have become shrill and contentious.

“God Almighty has set before me two great objects, the suppression of the slave trade and the reformation of manners (morality).”
- William Wilberforce

As I have listened over the years to the social and political arguments of the day, especially  the latest about Senator Ted Cruz and his stand against the health care system that is trying to be implemented, the above comments and statements really ring true. It's not the argument or disagreements that bother me, hey, I love a good debate. No, it is the mocking, finger pointing and literally trying to tear down the opponent through scoffing and ridicule. If you would like to see this in God's Word and what God's kids did about it read Nehemiah chapter 4, very powerful teaching! Don't get me wrong, republicans, democrats and everyone in between have been guilty of this but that does not make it right.

My Grandma would say, if you disagree with someone or something going on better to pray about it first and foremost and seek God's guidance and direction because taking matters into your own hands, thinking on your own thoughts and ideas will get you into trouble. 1 Corinthians 11:31 states: For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged.

Does this mean we shouldn't disagree or state our case and cause? Absolutely not, but do it in a gracious and civil manner with correct manners and human dignity that sadly so many are lacking.

Honoring Pastor Owen Cain

Thought I'd share a picture of this man that I admired so very much. Owen was not only my Pastor but a close friend and confidant as well. One time while talking with my Mom probably when I was in my early 40's she mentioned she had asked the Lord to always send men across my path that would be good influences and teachers for me since I grew up without a Dad. Owen was not only one of those men but, I would say the most important as he taught and shared with me not just the natural side of things but most important God's Word.

We had a lot in common. He was from a construction background and his wonderful wife Irene had brothers that traveled the rodeo circuit. I don't ever need someone to understand or be able to appreciate where I've been but it is really cool when that happens!

Owen was an Iwo Jima survivor and I never got tired of hearing his stories about that battle. He loved Cara with all his heart and believe me the feeling was mutual! I rejoice that they are together enjoying each others company as they gaze upon the Beauty of the Lord. As the song says, I can only imagine but now they are face to face with Jesus...WOW!

Owen Cain, one of the toughest yet the most gentle, kind, compassionate, caring and giving man I've ever known. He was my Pastor, my Dad and my friend and He ALWAYS directed me to Jesus and to keep my focus on Him first and foremost. Owen, I appreciate you and love you very much and look forward to seeing you again!

A wonderful opportunity to give back

I am very blessed to have been asked and now installed as the new District Chairman for the Cross Timbers District of the Boy Scouts of America. Scouting taught me foundational moral values, character building, leadership skills and fitness programs that have served me all my life. Besides that my years of scouting were some of the most fun times I had growing up!

I am excited to be able to give back to such a great organization and look forward to another door of opportunity that God has opened for me!

What you decide to line up with does matter, not just for you but your family!

Deuteronomy 30, verses 15 & 19 talks about the choice set before us each and every day. So what does God say about this? Look at the last part of verse 19, He very clearly states to choose life! Jesus states in John 10:10 that the thief has come to kill, steal and destroy, but Jesus says I have come that you may have life, and that more abundantly!  Again in Jeremiah 21:8 the word states that the way of life and death are put before us.

I started with these Scriptures because they go along with a statement I saw the other day, you will either line up with the Divine order or the new world order. I would also add that you will make the choice to be politically correct or be correct according to God's Word. On the one hand aligning ourselves with God's correctness leads to Life but aligning ourselves with the world and it's wrong way leads to death.

Galatians 6:7,8 states Be not deceived, God is not mocked, whatever a man sows that is what he will reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. We will either follow the world as a lamb to the slaughter or we will be the lambs of God's pasture and follow the Lamb of God to LIFE, for He is the Way, the Truth and the LIFE.  The Word gives us good instruction regarding these things in 1st John Chapter 2 as well. Along the lines of sheep for the slaughter it's interesting that the Word says that is what the world and those that love the world think about us, that we are considered just sheep for the slaughter. See Psalm 44:22 and Romans 8:36.

Let's face it, the gravitational pull of the world and sin is very very strong and without Jesus we can not overcome this. But let us be of good cheer! Jesus stated in John 16:33 that He HAS overcome the world and in 1 John 4:4 the greater One is in us, far greater than the one in and of the world. And, since He is the author and pioneer of our faith and Salvation we have a Faithful and Victorious High Priest that we can and must follow! He HAS overcome!

I heard John Tolson speaking at a men's Bible meeting sometime back regarding becoming a man of significance. Our happiness, joy, well being, etc is ALL based on our relationship with God. If this relationship is not right ALL the other relationships won’t be, including our relationship with ourselves. We are out of alignment, not directly on the mark made by God’s plumb line; see Amos7:7,8. Also Is 34:11 & Zech 4:10. Trust me, I've been there, out of that "perfect alignment" that he wants us in more than just a few times, not proud of it but thankful to the Merciful, patient and Faithful God that through Jesus forgives! And again I can boldly say it feels so much better to line up with God than the world!

I would invite you to search the Scriptures for more words of Life and share them with others. In the letters to the Churches Jesus ends each with "he who overcomes" and the promises that being an overcomer and making the "correct choices" will present to those that believe. He even tells how we overcome...by the blood of the Lamb and the Word of our testimony! Glory to the Lamb of God!

Make Every Breath Count & the Cara Young Fish for Life events!

Very blessed to be able to present my personal testimony and information regarding the "Make Every Breath Count" campaign to my State and National Representatives today. A big thank you to our local State Representative Mr. Rob Orr and our United states Representative Mr. Roger Williams.

This new campaign through the cystic fibrosis foundation is to renew public awareness and collaboration with our State and National Representatives on this terrible life threatening disease that effects the lungs and digestive system in approx. 30,000 children and adults in the United States. It also highlights local children's hospitals and I'm always ready to promote our local hospital which is Cook Children's in Fort Worth, TX.

We also have our 4th annual Cara Young Fish For Life event and tournament coming up September 15th at Lakeview Marina at Eagle Mountain Lake. There will be, of course the fishing tournament but if you are like me and don't fish, there will be lots to do such as kids fishing tournament, silent auction, raffle drawings, live music and a fish fry after the weigh-in, courtesy of Cabela's
A special thanks to all our sponsors which I will be listing after the event!

Call me for more information on supporting the cystic fibrosis foundation, Cook Children's or the Cara Young Fish For Life which benefits Cook Children's Hospital! Or, click on any of the links in my blog to get more information as well.

Why pray and or end your prayer in the Name of Jesus?

Why? Because as John 1:1-5 states, 1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. 5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

From the old Testament all the way through Jesus was heralded as the coming Redeemer. In the new Testament John the Baptist stated, behold the Lamb of God that hascome to take away the sins of the world-

From just a few Scriptures we can see that all things were created by Him, through Him and all for Him, Hebrews 1:1-3. No one else could have ever paid the price of the perfect sacrifice and shed perfect, “without sin” blood for our Salvation and deliverance, Hebrews 4:15!

It’s no wonder that Acts 4:12 states:

Also we see in 1 John 2:21-23 & 1 John 5 that those who claim that we all have the same God are wrong per what God says about it! His Word clearly states in these Scriptures, along with Acts 4:12 that Jesus IS the only Name and Way!

These are but a few of the myriads of Scripture that point to Jesus, the Author and Pioneer of our faith. He is the living Word, the Creator and I hope that you will search and find other Scripture that lifts up and Glorifies the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and share them with others.

We can not nor should we ever get into the position of trying to force someone or an entity to pray in Jesus Name, but share in Love the Gospel of Christ and why Jesus and Him alone deserves all our praise, honor, obedience and love. As Romans 1:16 states-

The Grace of our Lord and Savior be with you,

Steve Young

After obedience—what?

And straightway He constrained His disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side.… Mark 6:45–52 .

We are apt to imagine that if Jesus Christ constrains us, and we obey Him, He will lead us to great success. We must never put our dreams of success as God’s purpose for us; His purpose may be exactly the opposite. We have an idea that God is leading us to a particular end, a desired goal; He is not. The question of getting to a particular end is a mere incident. What we call the process, God calls the end.
What is my dream of God’s purpose? His purpose is that I depend on Him and on His power now. If I can stay in the middle of the turmoil calm and unperplexed, that is the end of the purpose of God. God is not working towards a particular finish; His end is the process—that I see Him walking on the waves, no shore in sight, no success, no goal, just the absolute certainty that it is all right because I see Him walking on the sea. It is the process, not the end, which is glorifying to God.
God’s training is for now, not presently. His purpose is for this minute, not for something in the future. We have nothing to do with the afterwards of obedience; we get wrong when we think of the afterwards. What men call training and preparation, God calls the end.
God’s end is to enable me to see that He can walk on the chaos of my life just now. If we have a further end in view, we do not pay sufficient attention to the immediate present; but if we realize that obedience is the end, then each moment as it comes is precious.

Kerby's Point of View - The Ten "You Cannots"

Thank you Kirby for this, these are some powerful, common sense statements. Merriam Webster Dictionary: common sense, noun
: sound and prudent judgment based on a simple perception of the situation or facts. Well, that pretty much left out most of our politicians! Just as I wrote that I was prompted about this Scripture in 2 Timothy...Which is "A Call to Prayer"...
1. First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men,
2. for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
3. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
4. who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth

Thank you Lord for Your Great Love!

The Ten “You Cannots”
by Kerby Anderson

In the aftermath of all the congressional spending, there have been some e-mails circulating with common sense sayings written by wise people long ago. One of those is the ten “you cannots.” If you have not seen them, here they are:

1. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. 2. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. 3. You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich. 4. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. 5. You cannot build character and courage by taking away man’s initiative and independence. 6. You cannot help small men by tearing down big men. 7. You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. 8. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income. 9. You cannot establish security on borrowed money. 10. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they will not do for themselves.

Over the years they have been incorrectly attributed to Abraham Lincoln. Actually they were written in 1916 by the Reverend William Boetcker, a Presbyterian clergyman and pamphlet writer. The confusion stemmed from a pamphlet published in 1942 entitled “Lincoln on Limitations.” The pamphlet had a Lincoln quote on one side and these statements by the Boetcker on the other side. Although the pastor was given credit on the pamphlet, many reading the pamphlet wrongly assumed that all of the statements were by Lincoln.

Sometimes people confuse it with a statement by the late Adrian Rogers. “You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.”

There is wisdom in both of these pastors’ sayings. We live in a world today that really believes we can help one part of society by harming another part of society. We need to listen to these wise pastors before we enact more legislation that attempts to help some by harming others.

“Even thou wast as one of them.”

This was a "daily read" I came across and it really hit home!

         — Obadiah 1:11
Brotherly kindness was due from Edom to Israel in the time of need, but instead thereof, the men of Esau made common cause with Israel’s foes. Special stress in the sentence before us is laid upon the word thou; as when Caesar cried to Brutus, “and thou Brutus”; a bad action may be all the worse, because of the person who has committed it. When we sin, who are the chosen favourites of heaven, we sin with an emphasis; ours is a crying offence, because we are so peculiarly indulged. If an angel should lay his hand upon us when we are doing evil, he need not use any other rebuke than the question, “What thou? What dost thou here?” Much forgiven, much delivered, much instructed, much enriched, much blessed, shall we dare to put forth our hand unto evil? God forbid!

A few minutes of confession may be beneficial to thee, gentle reader, this morning. Hast thou never been as the wicked? At an evening party certain men laughed at uncleanness, and the joke was not altogether offensive to thine ear, even thou wast as one of them. When hard things were spoken concerning the ways of God, thou wast bashfully silent; and so, to on-lookers, thou wast as one of them. When worldlings were bartering in the market, and driving hard bargains, wast thou not as one of them? When they were pursuing vanity with a hunter’s foot, wert thou not as greedy for gain as they were? Could any difference be discerned between thee and them? Is there any difference? Here we come to close quarters. Be honest with thine own soul, and make sure that thou art a new creature in Christ Jesus; but when this is sure, walk jealously, lest any should again be able to say, “Even thou wast as one of them.” Thou wouldst not desire to share their eternal doom, why then be like them here? Come not thou into their secret, lest thou come into their ruin. Side with the afflicted people of God, and not with the world.

Kerby's Point of View - Unconstitutional Surveillance

Thought this a very interesting and important comment. Remember that the Dodd-Frank reform act was created in the guise of "consumer protection".
But, then again so was "Homeland Security".

Unconstitutional Surveillance
by Kerby Anderson

Americans may not like the fact that the National Security Agency has seized data on their phone and Internet usage, but feel like there is nothing they can do about it. Constitutional law professor Randy Barnett (Georgetown University) believes Congress or the courts can put a stop to these data seizures. He argues in a recent column that, “The NSA’s Surveillance is Unconstitutional.”
He also adds another concern to this invasion of our privacy. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (created by the Dodd-Frank financial reform) is compiling a massive database of citizen’s personal information and financial transactions.
Randy Barnett says all of this violates some of the foundation principles of our government. The Fourth Amendment bans unreasonable seizures of a person’s papers. It also protects what we today call “informational privacy.” The real question is whether seizing the records of private communications companies is a violation of the Fourth Amendment. He argues that it does because of the way in which the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court routinely approves the blanket seizure of every American’s metadata.
That raises a second constitutional question. The Fifth Amendment stipulates that no one may be deprived of property “without due process of law.” The secret judicial proceedings, he believes, is the very “antithesis of the due process of law.” The secrecy of these meetings makes it impossible to hold public servants accountable.
He also points to the future abuse of these records. Gun rights advocates oppose gun registration because gun registries would make it feasible for gun confiscation to take place in the future. Likewise, these massive databanks make it feasible for government workers to download and use the private contents of our electronic communication and financial transactions without our knowledge and consent.
Randy Barnett calls on Congress or the courts to put a stop to these unreasonable blanket seizures of data. I hope one of these bodies takes his advice.

The correct order?

Just saw a comment...Working out mind, body and soul: prayer, reflection...
Please do not take this as critical or judgmental and I would never put the persons name, etc. in any of this because I see many who put it in this order. It struck me as I read the statement that years ago I would have spoken or written it much the same way, stating I need to work on body, then soul, the emotions, etc. then spirit. I had decided that I was okay in my life and that everything was pretty much up to one's own interpretation any way. Well, the Creator of the heavens, Earth and all that is contained in them says something very different, that it's His Word and it is NOT open to my interpretation! See 2 Peter 1:19-21 and Isaiah 55:6-11.

Problem with my thinking or as my Minister used to say, my stinkin thinkin, it's completely backwards! As I began studying God's Word way back there in 1986...wow, sometimes seems like eons ago and other times just like it was yesterday, I began to see what God said about these issues and where, by His Grace, we are supposed to concentrate, in other words, putting things back in the right order of how He created us to be which is Spirit first, then soul and body. To start with you can't put spirit first unless, as Jesus said to Nicodemus, you must be born again, for that which is born of flesh is flesh and that which is born of spirit is Spirit.

There are many Scriptures that God uses to show us the Way, the Way to first get born again and the reason for this, then the Way to get ourselves in His order, the correct order, Spirit, soul and then body. It goes against our natural tendencies because we have all in one way or another put ourselves and body first. But Jesus, who is the Way, states several places that if we are to follow Him then we must deny ourselves, take up OUR cross DAILY and follow Him. As I mentioned there are a number of Scriptures that state God's order, Spirit, soul & body but one of my favorite is 1 Thessalonians 5:23,24-Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely ; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus ChristFaithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.

Jesus, the Example

Hebrews 12:1-3 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,2fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer, author and perfecter of our faithwho for the joy set before Him endured the crossdespising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.3For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himselfso that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Good Word of trust, safety & protection

Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray. In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.
Psalm 5:2–3

The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He will drive out your enemy before you, saying, "Destroy him!"

Notes for 6-30-13

As I’ve been studying God’s principles, laws and politics according to the Bible, the principle’s that God laid out have been forgotten, ignored and evaded. Yea, God has been thrown out of almost every area of our State and National levels of gov., schools and legal system. Not nicely asked to leave but boldly told that He is not wanted.  The result is the present state of the world, with mankind’s retrogression to the lawlessness of absolutist tyranny, to the primitive savagery of rule by brute force. We need look no further than satans works to see the reason for this! Remove God and you are left with what Jesus said was the complete works of the enemy…to steal, kill and destroy.

Kerby Anderson’s  Point of View – Velocitized, the dumming down of a culture, or,  becoming acclimated  to your surroundings, as driving 30 & after driving 60 for awhile you really don’t feel any difference.

Bible study leader Michael Salman is sitting in jail today after his home was raided earlier this week by more than a dozen Phoenix, Ariz. police officers and city officials. His offense? The city says people aren’t allowed to hold private Bible studies on their own property. Salman was sentenced to 60 days in jail, three years probation and received a $12,180 fine for “the crime.”

A major change is a comin’

Sub title…a major “wake up” call!

A shift and change in people’s traditions, thoughts and belief’s is very close in our own country. Or, as the old Gaither song..."There's a line drawn through the ages..."
As I mentioned in a Sunday service, this “type” of event has already begun happening years ago in the “underground” Churches around the world.

Why are we at this precipice now? Because of the lateness of the hour, the choice of “Choose this day whom you will serve” as in Joshua 24:15 and the decree of choice in Deut. 30:15,19  is becoming more and more pronounced.  Remember…where sin abounds, Grace abounds even more, or super abounds-Romans 5:20. And, lets face the facts and the simplicity of the reason…God has been thrown out of almost every area of our State and National levels of gov., schools and legal system. Not nicely asked to leave but boldly told that He is not wanted. Matthew 24:4-14

Many will continue to refuse to believe so as to be saved…Acts 4:12. Others, the tares spoke of in Jesus’s parables of the seed, will continue to grow increasingly more wicked, as stated in Jude. Then there are those of what I call the “state run” Church, as in China, it’s the Church that has been declared “acceptable”, basically harmless, why? Not real power but only a form of Godliness. 2 Tim. 3:5. These are also the folks that hold to the vain traditions of men rather than the power of God. Matthew 15:1-9 & Mark 7:5-13.

Good news…Daniel 12:3 says…Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, and those who turn many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever.  W/Proverbs11:30 & for Christians that have not ever truly heard the Good News…James5:19,20

Not only will there be many that turn to the Lord Jesus so as to be saved, there will be many that have been born again that get a wake up call, the realization of not only the Truth of God’s Word but the Power of His Word! Romans 1:16, 1 Cor. 1:18 and the wake up call correlates with Matthew 25 as in the prudent & foolish virgins.

Romans 11:22  Behold then the kindness and severity of God ; to those who fellseverity, but to you, God's kindnessif you continue in His kindness ; otherwise you also will be cut off.

Since God is not willing for any to perish but for all to come to the saving Grace of the Lord Jesus…
